A paint brush, often abbreviated as "PB", is a special type of item that can be used to change the Colour of a Neopet or Petpet. The first paint brushes were released on May 9, 2000. Within the Neopets community, the act of using a paint brush is called "painting". The Colour that a Neopet or Petpet becomes after painting depends on which paint brush is used. Paint brushes disappear after they are used and, as such, each paint brush can only be used once.
Paint brushes are broadly divided into two groups: those that can be used to paint Neopets and those that can be used to paint Petpets. Paint brushes intended for Neopets cannot be used on Petpets, and paint brushes intended for Petpets cannot be used on Neopets.
With the exception of a few select paint brushes that are sold at the Hidden Tower, paint brushes cannot be purchased from official Neopian shops. Instead, users must obtain paint brushes by winning them from certain games of chance, such as the Fruit Machine and the Alien Aisha Vending Machine, or by receiving them as part of a Random Event. Paint brushes are also sometimes available as prizes for participating in plots or winning certain contests. The Advent Calendar has been known to occasionally give out paint brushes. Users also had a small chance of receiving a paint brush when they redeemed a gold key in Key Quest.
Excluding the four starter paint brushes that are included inside of newbie packs, all paint brushes are tradable. This means that paint brushes can be purchased from other users using the Auction House, the Trading Post, or user shops. Because the demand for paint brushes within the Neopets economy is so high, users can often sell their paint brushes for tens of thousands or even millions of neopoints.
To use a paint brush on a Neopet, the user must place the paint brush in their inventory and then travel to the Rainbow Pool. At the Rainbow Pool, the user will be shown a picture of each of their Neopets. If the paint brush in the user's inventory can be used on one of displayed Neopets, then a drop down list containing the name of the paint brush will appear below that Neopet. The user must select the paint brush from this drop down box and then click the Submit button to use the paint brush.
To use a paint brush on a Petpet, the user must first attach the Petpet to one of their Neopets. Next, the user must place the paint brush in their inventory and then travel to the Petpet Puddle. At the Petpet Puddle, the user will be shown a picture of each Petpet that is attached to one of their Neopets. If the paint brush in the user's inventory can be used on one of displayed Petpets, then a drop down list containing the name of the paint brush will appear below that Petpet. The user must select the paint brush from this drop down box and then click the Paint this Petpet! button to use the paint brush. Petpets that have been zapped by the Petpet Lab Ray cannot be painted.

Neopets paint brushes allow you to change the color of your Neopets or Petpets. Take note though: there are different brushes each for Neopets or Petpets. You can get them from fruit or vending machines, Advent Calendars, Key Quests, and even random events. When trading, be careful that it's not a "paint brush plushie" you're getting, those are different.
Paint brushes... many Neopets players dream to acquire one or many of them in order to transform the apparence of their pets. While it's possible to get paint brushes through random events, some Neopets dailies or even from redeeming a gold Key Quest key, most people buy them from other users.
Four paint brushes are available at the Hidden Tower (only if your account is 4+ month old). Baby, Darigan, Royal and Maractite paint brushes sell respectively for 600,000 NP, 1,400,000 NP, 1,750,000 NP and 4,000,000 NP. It's possible to buy them from players for slightly cheaper than the tower price.
Glass Paint Brush and Stone Paint Brush are now retired items. These colors are retired and it's impossible to use them on your pet. It only presents an interest for collectors nowadays. Similary, the Lutari Paint Brush has never been activated for the rainbow pool. However, this paint brush is very rare and if you stumble upon one, you are assured to make a great profit.
Below, you can find a list of all existing paint brushes. Be sure to check our Neopets color database to see what your pets could look like if you decide to buy one! Painting your pet a certain color might as well earn you an avatar! We try to keep the list of prices the most accurate as we can, so don't hesitate to contact us if one or many need to be edited!
A lot of players want to paint their pets an unusual color type: Elderly. This color makes any Neopet look old, giving them wrinkles, scraggly hair, and stereotypical old people clothes. The outfits also vary between the genders of the pet in question. There are many ways to get a pet to become this color, including using the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush.
As the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush currently sells for over one million Neopoints on second-hand markets like the Auction House or Trading Post, players that don't want to break the bank or grind games all day will need to find other ways to get the paintbrush for themselves.
The Rainbow Fountain allows players to paint their pets any color they want. The catch is that the only way to access it is to get a quest from the Rainbow Fairy which is incredibly rare. However, players willing to spend real life currently can purchase a Fairy Quest Cookie which will give them a single fairy quest of any kind each day for nine days.
While this one can be quite hard, it is possible to get paintbrushes from the various contests Neopets holds such as the Caption Contest. There is also the Beauty Contest, Story-Telling Contest, and the Random Contest. It's also possible to get paintbrushes by submitting items to the Poetry Gallery and Art Gallery,
These delightful paintbrushes will give your Neopet some sparkle, pizzazz, and a new lease on Neopian life. Each pin comes with an in-game code, or order a Complete Set for some great savings, a black velvet pouch, and an even more high-tier rare Neopets item code!
